I've always like Martha, but I tend to be too lazy to implement too many of her ideas. And for me, that's a good thing. I admit that over the years, I have read many of her hints, but a friend recently sent me an assortment that I thought I'd share with you today, in honor of Works for Me Wednesday:
~Martha says to stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips. (I just suck the ice cream out of the bottom of the cone)
~To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes. (I just buy Hungry Jack mashed potato mix , keep it in the pantry for up to a year)
~When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead and there won't be any white mess on the outside of the cake. (Go to the bakery! They'll even decorate it for you)
~If you accidentally over salt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for an instant "fix-me-up." (If I over salt a dish while I am cooking, that's too bad. Please recite with me the real woman's motto: "I made it and you will eat it and I don't care how bad it tastes!")
~Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks. (Celery? What's that? Never heard of it)
~Brush some beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful glossy finish. (The Mrs. Smith frozen pie directions do not include brushing egg whites over the crust so I don't.)
~Cure for headaches: take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away. (Take a lime, mix it with tequila, chill and drink!)
~If you have a problem opening jars, try using latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy. (Go ask that very cute neighbor guy if he can open it for you.)
~Don't throw out all that leftover wine. Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces. (Leftover wine?!)

HAHA! This is great! Thanks for the giggle! :)
These are all actually great tips. Thanks!!
This post made me smile. Thanks. :)
I'm going to be wrapping up my celery from now on:) Thanks.
Too funny. And you incorporated the word "Compendium" which elevates the whole thing to a new level of cool.
AMEN!!!
Martha also makes her own marshmallows... WHO does that?????
:o)
oh my goodness... this made me laugh incredibly hard, which was a much needed reprieve from wanting to knock my 8 year old upside the head! Thanks! (she thanks you to, I'm sure... though she shouldn't.)
You SO need your own magazine. I'd be a subscriber. ;)
funny stuff. however, i was counting how many of these tips I've actually done (and well, still do) and it's SIX! your commentary was hilarious. I love that marshmallow at the bottom of the cone though. it's like the prize in the cereal box... well, kinda sorta.
Your italics are the same that I would say. We've used frozen pies for several holidays now. the apple pie ones with vanilla ice cream are wonderful.
Exactly!! again!! I think I like you. lol
Hilarious...thanks for the chuckle. It sounds like you and I have way more in common that Martha and me!
