Note to self: be careful what you ask for

Does anyone else remember their mom saying, "honey, be careful what you ask for - 'cause you just might get it"?

Well, this isn't nearly that bad. :) I was oh so pleasantly surprised at how civil and nice your questions were - not one of you even asked anything that made me blush! I was so disappointed.

Oh, I kid. So here ya are - the answers to those questions that have been burning a hole in the nether regions of your brainatomy:

Kimberly asked, "Has it really only been two years since we were chatting on the Ebay group? Sooo much has happened since then, hasnt it?"

Actually, Kimberly...it's been three years since we all met on the Ebay moms group! And oh my, how things have definitely changed! I'm so thankful to Suzanne for inviting me into that group where I met some incredibly talented, supportive and all-around WONDERFUL ladies (Kimberly, Suzanne, Rachel, Lisa - I love y'all!). It was technically a message board where you could post ideas to help each other out with your stores, but it quickly became much more for me, since I was still trying to adjust to have three kids and not working a "real job". Those words sound so funny to me today, because if anyone ever tried to accuse me of not working a "real job" today, I'd probably laugh them off of the face of the earth. No, really I would. That group is what got me interested in html and design - because both Kimberly and Rachel are super-duper crafty-talented women whom I have learned much from about scrapbooking and design. Now I'm not so afraid of it - I've even stepped out and opened up shop!

Lora Lynn asks, "ooo, where can I get a sassy red bra?"

I am assuming you are referring to my red bra that my son's x-ray vision picked up? Because that is the only red bra I own and I'm so embarrassed that I'm about to admit this to the world wide web, but I don't think that any one in their right mind would want a bra like this one. (It was cut out of a wal-mart tank top) and there is in no way that a person could possibly mistake it for being "sassy"...but I like it, 'cause it's padded and makes me look like I have lots of boobage. And it's comfy. Of course, if you really want to know where to get a true-blue (so to speak) sassy red bra, google is a fine place to start, I would think.

Elle asked me, "Because I'm new to your blog and a homeschooler, I like to hear other homeschooler's reasons for homeschooling. That would be my question. The other would be, what is your favorite thing to write about and why?"

We chose to homeschool because we felt that was the BEST option for our family. Years ago, when our oldest was three, she went to a little Montessori school. I LOVED that school - she learned in Spanish and knew far more than the typical first grader because she was learning at her own pace and wasn't held back. We travel some with our business (and my husband is in the ministry) and so we like the flexibility it provides for that reason. But that is not the only reason - we live in an area where the school system leaves a lot to be desired - there is overcrowding in the classrooms, our kids would be exposed to elements we don't want them exposed to - (we have 4th graders getting pregnant). Just because you live in a rural area, doesn't mean the schools are any good. :) And finally, I really want our kids to have FUN learning - experience things that MAKE them want to learn. They need to have a desire to learn and that's my goal - to instill a genuine desire in them for learning that doesn't just stop when school is over. Self-improvement should never stop. Oh, I suppose I should mention that the curriculum is obviously from a Christ-centered approach. THAT was key for me as well. (Part of "train them up").

My favorite thing to write about? Honestly, I think it would have to be my family and my childhood. I wish I had more time to develop stories, because I have some real doozies in me that are just DYING to get out to y'all.

Emily asked me, "do you not have any sisters? :( what are the odds of that happening?!"

Actually, I DO have a sister. But she's way older than me and not as cute. (Gotcha sis!) I have a weird family. Let's see if I can explain - it's sort of like a "yours, mine and ours", only I'm the only "ours" there was. My dad was married and had my sister with his wife, while at the same time my mom was married and birthing 6 boys (well, thankfully, not all at the same time) within the span of 10 years. They both divorced, met, married and blended their family prospective families and then got smart and had me when they were 38. Actually I was a happy surprise. (I honestly don't even know that they were that happy about it - but I was treated well anyway). I don't talk a lot about my sister because she's actually never done anything to hack me off like my brothers have. She's always been kind and loving towards me and no one wants to read that sweet sap, do they? I'd rather blog about my brothers sticking fire crackers between my toes and lighting them than reminisce about how much I lurve my older sister. But seriously, we have a great relationship - she lives in Houston (see, S? I respect your privacy! I didnt't tell them you actually live in Conroe!)

And that's where I'm stopping this madcap entry for today - look for more tomorrow! I've got to spend the rest of the night figuring out how to answer some of these...sheesh - some of you are buh-roo-toll in your questioning. Oh, again, I kid.

If I may, I would like to add my reasons for homeschooling. There are a few really big ones for us. One...my oldest daughter and my son could barely read going into the 5th and 6th grades. The school claimed they had learning disorders...but I, without a teaching degree, taught them how to read within a year. Two...my daughter was bullied so horribly that she developed a stutter, which went away shortly after we began homeschool. My son was suspended on several occasions for defending himself against bullies. The school refused to do anything to stop this bullying because... "if we dont see it, then there is nothing we can do about it." I dont recall bullies picking on other children in front of a teacher, do you? There are many more reasons why we chose homeschool. I can honestly say that it was one of the best decisions we have ever made!

As for the ebay group...I feel the same way!!! Thanks for the compliments! You are quite the crafty woman yourself!!!! :)

I like the sweet sap, Karen. I like the other stuff too, but I definitely like the sweet sap!

you're a brave gal for tackling my question. props for that!

my inbox is awfully empty and depressing this week. guess there's no technical glitches to discuss!

p.s. when i was in high school, i had this red bra that I wore on days when I needed "a little something something" to make me feel brave. my friends thought it was hilarious, because if you'd known quiet, shy, modest me in high school, that red bra would have been quite the contradiction! we called it "Red Bra Day." They were big occasions.
