Procrastination Junction

My middle name really should be "procrastination". I seem to live by the motto "why do it today when I can put it off until tomorrow, or next year?" While I am normally quite an organized and timely person in other areas of my life, there are just certain things I allow to pile up because I do not like doing them. Anyone else this way?

Take my laundry, for instance. Really, you can have my laundry. I don't want it. It is one of the only things I will truly put off until the last moment. I know it's time to wash a load of clothes when my husband hints that he's been wearing the same pair of socks for two days and it would be oh so nice not to have to wear them again tomorrow because they might stand up on their own, and that could possibly frighten our clients into thinking we're not the kind of people they want to do business with because whose wife sends them out without washing his socks? (okay, I'm not that bad, but you get the picture - I really don't like doing it).

Another area I tend to procrastinate is grocery shopping. I really have no excuse for this - other than the fact that the thought of taking all three kids with me makes my head want to spin and fly off my shoulders like a 4th of July rocket. It's that spectacular, yes, it is. There is never a time in the day when I hear "mama" more than when I take my kids shopping...and since we are on a budget, there is never a time in the day when they hear "no" more than when we are at Wal-mart. "Mama, can I get this ultra-cool, glow-in-the-dark whoopie cushion? I promise not to use it on you." "No, honey...we're on a budget today." (thank goodness)

I'm really more of a "Get a goal, get a plan, and get started" kind of gal. Really, I am. I make lists. Lots of lists. And I even cross stuff off of said lists. I don't know about you, but it makes me feel like I've accomplished something if I'm able to do this. I will admit, however, there have been a few days where I found "other" things to do (like scrapbook, blog - you know the important stuff) than the things that were on my list...so I just added them and crossed them off like they were there all along so I wouldn't have to feel so badly. I know I'm not the only one that's ever done that, right?

But seriously...where was I going with all of this? I don't know, really. I guess I've just been sitting at the computer with nothing to say for so long that I decided to finally let some of the nothingness out. While others are blogging about really interesting and important things, I am struggling to get my brain to focus on writing again. So y'all bear with me, I promise to have something more to say in the days to come, because I feel those creative juices beginning to flow again.

I love what John Maxwell says, "The whole idea of motivation is a trap. Forget motivation. Just do it. Exercise, lose weight, test your blood sugar, or whatever. Do it without motivation. And then, guess what? After you start doing the thing, that's when the motivation comes and makes it easy for you to keep on doing it."
