Hair, oh where are you tonight? Why did you leave me hair all alone?

I've never been known for having super-luxuriously thick hair, but I've always had enough to cover my scalp. Recently, (in the last two months), I have noticed an inordinate amount of my hair falling out.

Now, any woman knows that her hair is her crowing glory. Why, what woman isn't concerned with the "right" haircut or covering up those grey hairs when they appear? We sometimes spend years of our lives finding the right stylist who knows just what to do with that little cowlick in the back -- not to mention thousands of dollars over the course of a lifetime for products and such.

For weeks, I have watched my more of my scalp appearing and more of my hair disappearing. This is an alarming trend. Firstly, I don't want to go bald before my husband does. I mean, it's cute on my husband. Not so much so on me. Secondly, I don't want to be the lady in Wal-Mart that the little kids point at and ask their moms in a loud voice, "Mommy, why doesn't that lady have any hair?" Sigh. I know that's vanity, but I've had to accept the fact that when it comes to my hair, I'm vain. There -- it's said.

I do have some options.

Option one: I could always buy a wig:

Option two: I could use shave my head and just go with the "I'm bald on purpose look". But I'm so afraid I'd end up looking like this (and then the kids would really point and stare):

And finally, option three:

Sometimes looking on the bright side isn't so easy, because the sun shines there and reflects off my scalp. I'm thinking of only going out at night, with a fundana on my head. Or a large straw hat. It's summer...I could get away with that, right?
(oh...and lest you think I'm kidding about my bald spots - here's proof)

*as a side note - my oldest daughter overheard me talking to someone about this on the phone the other day and she said, "Mom...you need to get your HEMORRHOID checked out! It's probably out of whack." Lands, if a hemorrhoid is causing this, it must be a doosie...I'm hoping for thyroid. I'll keep you posted!

your daughters comment is just too funny!!

You are not vain, i totally understand!! It seems to be an, ahem, *age* thing. My hair is thinning also. So i have chosen to dye it funky colors!! My hairstylist tells me I have one cowlick in front and 3 in back!! So i wear my hair short and spikey!!

Happy Mothers Day,btw!!

hemmroid causing baldness, LOVE it. LOL I'm cracking up over here.

Are you getting enough protein in your diet?

The wig option is the best...don't shave it all off!

i don't think you're vain -- my hair starting falling out and it ended up being a side effect of a medicine i was taking. (trazadone, if you're interested). in any case, as soon as i stopped taking that, my hair stopped falling out, and started sloooowly filling back in. but while it was falling out in clumps, i was just horrified! you know, i'm 25 and thinking jeez louise! i'm going to have no hair! it was just kind of embarrassing. i'm sure the dr. will check your thyroid and lots of other things. i hope they can find an easy fix for you. :)

Your Daughter cracks me up!!! LOL!

Now you may or may not know this but I have shaved my head twice just to see if all the white had fully come in or if I looked like a backwards skunk, and being that my hair is STILL dyed red...well I guess you know the answer to that lovely question, anyway I said all that to say it takes a mighty powerful woman to walk around with a shaved/no hair head so if it happens to you its really ok cause I already know you are a MIGHTY POWERFUL WOMAN!!!
