I remember back when I was a little girl, my daddy used them all the time (on purpose - it was our own form of 'pig latin') and I used to keep running lists of my favorites. When my mom moved down to Texas three years ago, she mailed me three huge boxes of "stuff" that I had left at home "because I might need it someday". Don't look at me that way - you know you all did exactly the same thing when you left home...I'll bet some of you even threw a fit when your mom wanted to turn your bedroom into her sewing room like mine did.
At any rate, my mom sent me these boxes and I found one of my lists that I will now share with you. But before I share them...let's pause for just a moment to consider something. Do you ever find it strange that you hop into your virtual car on the internet, cruise down the information highway and the stop at some place you've never been before just to read what their favorite spoonerisms are? How weird is that? I'm just sayin'. (but I'm ever so glad you parked it here)
Without further ado, I will now share with you my top 13, in no particular order:
1. "Blushing crow" for "crushing blow"
2. "Drain Bamage" for "brain damage"
3. "Bater Wottle" for "water bottle"
4. "Sparking Pot" for "parking spot"
5. "Bass Ackwards" for...well, this is a family friendly blog.
6. "Chipping the flannel on TV" for "flipping the channel on TV"
7. "Go and shake a tower" for "Go and take a shower"
8. "It crawls through the fax" for "It falls through the cracks"
9. "Nicking your pose" for "Picking your nose"
10. "Go help me sod" for "So help me God"
11. "Plaster man" for "Master plan"
12. "Belly jeans" for "Jelly beans"
13. "This is the pun fart." instead of "This is the fun part."
Got kids? Read Rindercella to them. But if you really like Spoonerisms, you can go to Fabelbish.com and have your sentences instantly tranlated into spoonerisms. Fow thun is hat?

that was hilarious!! I've honestly never heard of a spoonerism, but of course have said a couple of those things by accident on purpose lol Great TT!!
Great list, nice one for TT! Mine's up too hope you can drop by... Happy TT!
Try reading the book Runny Babbit by Shell Silverstein. It stuts my kids in pitches!
I've only heard of #5 - we used to say it all the time.
Happy TT!
so funny! i didn't know those had a name!
My youngest when she was about 4 would say "Sqrunge Bob Spare Pants" instead of "Sponge Bob Square Pants". Now I can tell her that it's was "Spoonerism". Cool.
I love these!
I'm so glad your mother didn't put your boxes out on trash day!
Don't children have eternal rights to store their junk at their parent's house, long after they move out?
When I left home, I took EVERYTHING. I left one or two keepsake boxes of my baby stuff... but I took the rest. I have no idea why. Now it all sits in MY garage.
I just found you via Robin @ Pensieve, but I just HAD to comment. Every single night of my life my dad would head up the stairs around 9:00 and say, "Well, I'm going up to shake a tower." That's such a sweet memory to me. My husband sometimes says it now, and it's just the cutest thing to me. Thanks!
Hi. Just found you from "rocks in my dryer" (I think).... Anyway, I love spoonerisms and was reminded of when I was explaining the concept to a friend of mine. It happened to be Dec 31. So I said, "If I didn't like you very much, I might slip up and say
'Nappy You Here'
but since that's not the case, instead I'll say
'Happy You Near!!'"
And yes, I agree, reading a stranger's favorite spoonerisms is definitely a little weird, but fun nonetheless. : )
ROFLOL!!!!
GREAT LIST!
Happy TT!
How fun! I have never heard of a spoonerism before.
Karen-
True story... Once my mom was making a Sunday roast and after she pulled it out of the oven, well of course I had to sample it. It was a really marbled piece of meat and I got a bite of mostly fat. She asked how it was and I said "great! But I got a funk o' hat!" We BUST out laughing.
(supposed to be 'chunk of fat')
My other favorite is a bubber rand .
