Just Your Average Texas Garden Spider

The female usually eats her web each day and constructs a new one, often in the same place. These spiders are not particularly dangerous to people, and their bites result in nothing more than a sore, itchy swelling that goes away in a few days.


Here's one in comparison to my daughter:

(oh, I KID...it's not really that big - but you try walking into one of those webs unaware...)

ooh my I don't think I like those at all, ok not a lot of think has to go into it , I do like those, but the first picture is kinda cool, the bright colors of the "monster" (that is what we call them in my house) against the brick is actually very pretty..did I just call a monster pretty...it must be a great shot then! Haha! Your daughter does not look amused! We had one in our garden last year -- only maybe since we're in Georgia, it was a Georgian Garden Spider?

LOL! She seems so thrilled to take part in this. That spider is amazing. I recently posted a pic from a trip to NC where we discovered a Black Widow in the garden and I thought that was hair-raising. You've got me beat! Happy WW :P

We have some like that as well. They're huge!! Avoiding their webs is definitely advised. Otherwise you might get stuck. ;)

That is quite a photo. We have a lot of spiders where I live and my one daughter just hates them. She makes me take them out of the bathtub before she'll get in.

We had some nasty spiders in Arizona, but only the sewer roaches were that big! Glad to be back in Idaho where only the hobos scare us.

Ok - I don't mean to get into a "my spider is bigger than your spider" contest, but I recently had a very large visitor on my front porch as well. And if our bricks are the same size, your spider might have been a hair larger.
