Repeat after me: Leaves of three...

After our teepee debacle a couple of weeks ago, I thought I would post some identifying photos "just in case" you find yourself cleaning up in the yard or taking a nature hike...or your kids decide to decorate their teepee with some poison ivy.

This is the front side of the tree, perfectly harmless little suckers (I'm not being vulgar - that's what they're called) growing all over the front:

But walk around to the back with me. Yep. Just as I suspected. Poison ivy. Can you see it? If ever in doubt, remember this little poem, "Leaves of three, leave them be." So simple a toddler can remember it - if you ever teach them, that is.

Let's take a closer look. Hmm...1...2...3. I'm itching already. How about you?

A teepee decorated with poision ivy, too funny. I've never had poision ivy, but I hear it's no fun.

Now that probably wasn't all that much fun. Reminds me of the movie Over Board....with Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. Great advise/ reminder of what that awful stuff looks like!

Unfortunately, I've become quite good at spotting it. Nasty, nasty, evil stuff that it is.

Happy WW!

And it looks so innocuous. Kind of pretty even.

Oh my goodness! I haven't taught this little gem to Princess yet and we live on a wooded lot. How could I have been so remiss? Thank you!

Oh dear, I sense a story behind this post.

I'm FL and not familiar at ALL with poison ivy. Since the kids and I have been staying on the family farm in Ohio, hubby has had to give me a tutorial on poison ivy. You want to know what's ironic? I haven't had one problem with poison ivy but he has! Maybe it's because I think I'm safer inside and he does actually venture out :-)

I am so allergic! A few weeks ago I did some cleaning out in the yard with THONG SANDALS! Yeah, not smart. My poor toes were not recognizable.

Happy WW! As a kid I was immune, but now I'm starting to have to pay more attention...ugh!

Oh my! We live out in the country, so I grew up hearing that little ditty about poison ivy. It can REALLY be annoying! My son is so allergic to it I follow him around outside...

It sometimes has several different appearances, like shiny or reddish colored. They all have three leaves though.

I thought it had to have the red on the leaves, so I'm glad I saw this post!

Oh scary! I'm glad to see pics as I have not been good about identifying it. I will have to remember it.

Is it possible to outgrow a poison ivy allergy? My kids have never had it. I got it all the time as a kid. Twice - in high school and college - bad enough for the emergency room. High school I was outside while DOT was burning debris from the medians. Turns out I was inhaling poison ivy smoke. Did you know that it's hard to breathe when the throat is swollen?

I've never seen poison ivy. We are cursed with poison oak out here instead. Tons of it. We found out there are about twenty different varieties of poison oak! Oh, joy.

Good info. Now even I can remember it. I don't think I'm allergic though. Yea me!
